This post was almost “I want to be a great preacher.” But as I think about it, I want to be great at leading people in worship throughout the entire experience and not just at the preaching event. I believe that excellent worship is more than just excellent preaching. I think that designing worship to […]
Category: worship
I have found that when caring for a family at the time of death and in preparation for a final service it can be quite helpful to provide clear guidance throughout the process. The service of death and resurrection as outlined in the United Methodist Book of Worship is an excellent guide for the service. […]
The Gospel on Broadway
We just finished up a fantastic sermon series at Resurrection – The Gospel on Broadway. While technically off-Broadway, what other opportunity would you have for this song from High School Musical in the middle of worship? Beauty and the Beast and Les Miserables were the theme for the previous two weeks. Transitions between the semon, […]
Music in the Weekend Service
When songs are sung in worship – what do you call it? Hymns Praise and Worship Worship Praise Any other combinations or terms that I may be missing. I am wondering what other settings commonly refer to this element in the service – particularly for services with band instrumentation.
June 22 Pastoral Prayer
I helped lead worship at Resurrection on June 22 and wrote a prayer for the experience. I have shared all of the prayers that I have written for worship via Google Docs under Resources here at this site. Please feel free to use and adapt to your own context. Enjoy! https://thoughtsofresurrection.wordpress.com/resources/
I received the following email from a Resurrection attender last month. I have included my response below and some additional thoughts. They have each been edited for anonymity. Email Received: Has Pastor Adam ever broached the subject with the congregation on appropriate attire when attending church? I imagine that this is a rather sticky subject, […]
Worship Venue Benchmark Trip
I had a great trip to California. Dan, Jason and I ended up visiting: Crystal Cathedral – mainly because it was close and we had time. Mariners Church – Just got to see their facilities, but great stuff – technical stage and wonderful outdoor space. Saddleback Church – We checked out one of their venues […]
One Quick Trip
By the time that you read this, I will be on a plane with Jason Gant and Dan Entwistle headed to California to check out venue worship services at the following: Saddleback Church Rock Harbor North Coast Church Mosaic (possibly) I hope to get some photos on the trip and possibly post on the road. […]
At Resurrection, we are encouraged to write our prayers for worship before the service. The hope is that this will be able to provide a prayer that is mindful of non and nominally religious persons and also is an intentional part of worship. Beginning today, I am going to include all of the prayers that […]
Stories from Easter (4 of 4)
Last but not least is conversation with a member of the congregation. I was greeting people on the way out after one of the services when an individual stopped and had a brief conversation with me. Final words from this individual to me: “Don’t eat too many deviled eggs today.” Good advice.
Stories from Easter (3 of 4)
Nicole and I had the privilege to serve as ushers at the 3:00 PM service which was a new thing for me. Volunteers were low for that service and Nicole and I were assigned to section N (center in the mezzanine, for you Resurrection folks). It gave me a new appreciation for the role that […]
Seven Simple Truths about Life
I am excited about the upcoming sermon series at Resurrection – Seven Simple Truths about Life. This promo video got the best response from the congregation of any promo video that I have seen here. What do you think?
