I am passionate about renewal within the United Methodist Church in Kansas. I believe that Bridges to the Future Capital Campaign for Kansas United Methodists is an important part of this renewal. The following content was provided as a part of the Kansas East Media Packet.
Many people in the world get an idea of something they want to accomplish and take the necessary steps to achieve that goal, letting nothing get in their way. Sometimes this ends up working. Other times, it leaves the person alone because they have compromised too much of who they are or severed the relationships that helped them thrive.
Unfortunately, this also happens in the church. We set a goal and seek the guidance of others but often we forget where our ultimate guidance should come from – our Lord Jesus Christ. Any plans we make can not be successful without a sincere commitment to prayer for His perfect guidance. The same is true with the “Bridges to the Future” capital funds campaign approved by the Annual Conference in May 2007 to raise funds for campus ministry, camping, and church growth and development. We must always be seeking the Lord’s guidance. That is why the initial phase of the campaign has nothing to do with raising money – it is about prayer. Setting the spiritual foundation is extremely important for the campaign so that we stay focused on Christ and continue to seek His will.
Congregations are invited to join with us and become Spiritual Vision Partners. Following the Spiritual Emphasis Orientations attended by clergy and lay leader(s), churches will make the decision to dedicate the “Bridges to the Future” campaign to prayer. Many materials will be provided to make this a reality, including a prayer guide, bulletin inserts to highlight the three main areas of the campaign, and posters to show support of the campaign. We hope you will join with us in this Spiritual Emphasis phase of the “Bridges to the Future” Capital Campaign. It will be exciting to see how your prayer and support will contribute to the growth of campus ministry, camping and church growth and development.
