The Secret Message of Jesus – Book Discussion

This fall I will be leading a book discussion based on The Secret Message of Jesus by Brian D. McLaren. This is a part of the Living Forward classes that are being offered by the Congregational Care pastors at Resurrection. From the website:

Would you like to learn more about Jesus’ teaching and preaching? Would you like to consider how it made an impact on the lives of those who heard it in the first century and what relevance it has for our lives in the 21st century? Then join us for this three-week class based on the book The Secret Message of Jesus by Brian D. McLaren. Each week you will have an opportunity to learn more about Jesus, Jesus’ message and our lives together. Please purchase and read Part 1 (Chapters 1-5) of The Secret Message of Jesus by Brian D. McLaren before the first class meeting. This class will be facilitated by Rev. Andrew Conard, N-R Pastorate.

Mondays, August 6, 13, and 20.
7:00 p.m.—9:00 p.m. Room 210

If you live in the Kansas City area, you are invited to join in this conversation. Registration is online can be found here.

As taught by Jesus, we have been praying “your kingdom come on earth, your will be done on earth”. Now, Brian D. Larson says “the kingdom of God is here. I’ll help you see the kingdom with your own eyes.” so far in the first 5 chapters of his book. So, I will continue to read this book.
One thing I trust Larson is he is likely reading bible in the original Greek text, making his interpretation more reliable. (For me the Greek is greek.)

Steve – I am glad to hear that you are going to continue reading the book. I think that praying for God’s kingdom to come is an important part of our prayer life. As far as knowing Greek – I do not know Greek myself and I am not sure that it would make an interpretation more reliable. Perhaps, more nuanced or rich.
