A presentation on disaster relief was not on the agenda a month ago, but today it was an important part of the work of the Annual Conference. After several presentations, Bishop Jones brought our attention to three images in response to the recent tornadoes in Kansas.
- Scripture is the basis for what we do and how we do it.
- Picture of Bishop receiving a toothbrush – our love needs to be a smart kind of love.
- There have been over 100,000 toothbrushes received in Greensburg. That is well over 70 toothbrushes for each person living in Greensburg, KS.
- The disaster coordinator gave a toothbrush to the bishop as one small step to deal with the amount of toothbrushes received.
- Tom Hazelwood – Executive Secretary for disaster response in the United States for the United Methodist Committee On Relief (UMCOR)
- We don’t always know where our apportionment money goes.
- Tom’s presence and the response that he represents from the response from the general church is a picture of the connection.
