Serving All, Leading Together is the theme of the Annual Conference in Kansas West in 2007. The acronym is “salt.” Underneath Hutchinson is the largest salt deposit in North America. Salt mining is a key industry in town and another addition to the town is the newly opened Kansas Underground Salt Museum.
Part of opening worship was a video of a descent into the salt mines and a call to remember that being salt of the world is a calling and responsibility of all Christians. As a to be commissioned probationary elder, I had the opportunity to serve communion as a part of the opening service. I served at one of the stations with a retiring member of the Annual Conference – this was a meaningful symbol.
