Reflections on Day 10 of the UMC General Conference 2020(4)

Day 10 of the UMC General Conference 2020(4) began with the commissioning of global missionaries during worship, highlighting the core of Methodism as a missionary movement. The celebration of the Mission Bicentennial emphasized that mission belongs to God, and we are all invited to participate in it.

The afternoon session started with the final portion of the revised Social Principles. I am grateful for the opportunity to have been on the floor and voted on these the final portion of the revised Social Principles and the legislation allowing deacons to officiate the sacraments in their ministry settings. Despite some debate about the section on marriage, which passed with amendments, I am glad to see the revised Social Principles passed overall. I tried not to be too much of a tourist while on the floor, so didn’t get too many pictures

After this exhausting but rewarding day, I had supper and some ice cream before bed. The work of the General Conference is good but undeniably tiring.
