It is a blessing to be a part of services of Christian marriage. Each one is an adventure. Here is a story from a service earlier in the year…
The first time that I met the couple they asked if a relative could help officiate at the service. I was skeptical at first, but they continued that he was an orthodox priest and would be flexible about the part that he would play in the service. It turned out to be great. I did not meet the priest until the rehearsal, but everything went smooth. He read scripture and gave a brief reflection on it – we find marriage at the beginning and the end of the scriptures. Excellent!
Another great part of the service was the incorporation of multiple languages. One of the couple was born in Lebanon and there were several family members who had traveled from Lebanon to be at the wedding. The priest read scripture in Arabic. Later in the service scripture was read both in English and Arabic. It was good.
