Yesterday was a good day at the School of Congregational Development. Kirby John Caldwell spoke at the first plenary session about the vision that Windsor Village UMC has for the future. I found him to be an engaging speaker and very enthusiastic about the local church. The next session was for the particular ministry track of which one was enrolled. I am in the Church Start 101 track. This afternoon Don Smith gave a presentation in that track about the old wayof doing church planting and a new way of doing church planting. In essence a newer way of doing church planting is to begin with the leader, not with the land. Taking time in training and discernment is key for the potential new church leader.
The second plenary session included a presentation from Path One, which was brief and I unfortunately missed. Steven Blair from First Light: A United Methodist Faith Community spoke in the evening plenary session. I have been greatly impacted by God’s work through Steven and the people of First Light. It has been a blessing to be a part both hosting and being a part of this event.
