The Kingdom of Heaven is like the internet

The Kingdom of Heaven is like the internet, in that it is:

  • Diverse
  • Growing / expanding
  • Communal / connecting
  • Experiential

The Kingdom of Heaven is not like the internet, in that it is:

  • Not damaging or destructive, which the internet can be at times.

This post came about from listening to pray-as-you-go yesterday. As a part of the daily time of prayer, Matthew 13:31-34 was read and the question asked – “If Jesus was speaking to a crowd in your home town today do you think he would use the same images, or are there different parables you think he might tell?”

What do you think? Do you agree or disagree with the parable of the internet? What other parables might Jesus tell today?

It’s also like the internet in that—

1. God is working on Heaven and Earth 2.0 (probably shinier too)

2. Right now it’s in beta and, to some extent, open source

3. Early adopters get some fairly big bonuses later on, and perks now.

Not like the internet-

1. Prayer has never had to deal with dial-up, and for Catholics and Orthodox there’s a quite a few servers to upload to.

2. the webmaster ensured universal browser compatibility

Greetings Friend
Are you in the Kingdom of Heaven? Do you believe that Jesus Christ died on a cross for your sins? Do you have joy in your life? Tell me a little about yourself – leave a comment!!
PEACE BE WITH YOU

deviant monk – Great additions. I agree 100% Thanks, friend.

Micky – I think that I am living in and into the Kingdom of Heaven. I believe that Jesus Christ died and was resurrected for all creation. I’ve got joy, joy, joy, joy, down in my heart…

Andrew-

I believe that Jesus Christ died and was resurrected for all creation.

Interesting- I don’t think I’ve ever heard anybody use that terminology in that context. I completely agree.

deviant monk – Thanks I am not sure if I had articulated it quite like that before. In responding to the question, I had thought first that it is not just death, but also resurrection that brings life. Also, not just for my sins or the entire world, but for all creation. “Behold, I am making all things new.” Revelation 21:5

actually, I have heard what you described before. It was St. Athanasius in his “On the Incarnation.” (Probably one of the greatest theological works ever, and extraordinarily formational for my theology.) Not necessarily the same phraseology, but the same idea.
