This summer Nicole and I have enjoyed fresh vegetables weekly from the Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program from the Kansas City Center for Urban Agriculture. Basically we paid a set amount of money up front and now weekly throughout the summer pick up a bag of fresh vegetables – whatever is in season. It has been a great experience and a bit of adventure as we have had to figure out how to enjoy some things that we had never heard of before.
I think that this is a part of stewardship of the environment and it helps me to connect with individuals. I know by name the owners of the farm. One more step toward loving your neighbor…
Here is a video from UMTV.org talking about a similar program and involvement of The United Methodist Church.

Nice!
Andrea and I get our CSA veggies from Rolling Prairie Farmers Alliance. There’s been mention that “Community-Supported Agriculture” is a bit of a misnomer, and that it’s really “Agriculture-Supported Community”.
I have a food blog at cuisinerd.blogspot.com, where you’ll find frequent mention of RPFA and CSA veggies (as well as veggies from our garden!)
Ian – Thanks for the comments and the additional thoughts. In any case agriculture and the community become more closely linked in this arrangement. Good for all!
