Yesterday afternoon, a significant time was spent on the discussion of the approval of the budget for 2008. The discussion was around the support of the United Methodist institutions of higher education in Kansas West – Southwestern College and Kansas Wesleyan University.
There has not been significant monetary support for any of the United Methodist institutions in Kansas West for several years. There is a recognition that there is a need for and the importance of support for the United Methodist institutions – both higher education and otherwise.
There was articulated in the discussion that there is a balance between apportioning whatever the annual conference decides and also fulfilling the commitments to these apportionments by each of the local churches. I think that it is important for the approval and support that is given in the budget to be carried through by the apportionment monies that are given by each of the local congregations.
