Non and Nominally Religious

I had a wonderful experience meeting with a couple yesterday. They have been attending Resurrection for about a month. Both of them have very little background in faith or the church. They began to search for a church home after the death of a parent who made the opportunity for them to explore faith available, but was not pushy about it.

This couple wants to make Resurrection their church home and wanted to know what to do. One of them reported being to church about 10 times in their life – was there any books to read? classes to take? Where do you start in a journey of faith?

The first way that I responded was that this church was built for people just like the two of them – Our Purpose is: To build a Christian community where non-religious and nominally religious people are becoming deeply committed Christians. The couple recognized that they were non-religious and and were looking forward to the journey ahead.

I also provided several resources for baptism, church membership, and ways that they could begin to grow in their faith – including the Alpha course, Disciple Bible Study, and mission opportunities. It was amazingly refreshing to speak to people searching to grow in faith.

  1. How do you provide guidance for individuals seeking to begin a journey of Christian discipleship?
  2. What is helpful to help nurture new faith?

Excellent example of using cyber-evangelism. I’m just beginning a personal blog and a devotional one for my church. Any tips you might have for reaching non & nominal Christians would be greatly appreciated.
