I think that this question has a great deal to do with the title of the book which we are studying – The Secret Message of Jesus. The first five chapters of the book (which we discussed this week) do not address the content of Jesus teaching as much as setting the stage. I think that this question will be addressed more fully in the context of this book as we continue to read together.
Nevertheless, I think that this is a good question. I believe that part of the answer to this question is similar to my response from yesterday. Jesus’ proclamation of the Kingdom of God is often through building relationships with other people and encouraging relationships among others. For us, I think that proclamation of the good news of Jesus Christ is deeply intertwined with living in the Kingdom of God. The story that we have to share with others is not secret knowledge, but an alternative way of life.
- Do you think Jesus’ message is a secret? Why or why not?
