You Were Noticed Missing
Luke 15:4 (CEB) · The Gospel on Stage and Screen
“Suppose someone among you had one hundred sheep and lost one of them.” — Luke 15:4a (CEB)
A hundred sheep in a pasture, and the shepherd knows one is gone. Not eventually. Not after a headcount at the gate. Immediately. The way your favorite barista notices when you skip your Tuesday morning stop. The way a teacher spots the empty desk before the bell rings. Being known means someone is paying attention closely enough to notice when you’re absent.
The shepherd in this parable doesn’t shrug and round up the ninety-nine. The missing one creates an ache, a gap in the flock that won’t let him rest. Your absence registers in the heart of God the same way, not as a statistic, but as a name. God knows the shape of the space you leave behind.
You were noticed missing before you knew you were lost.
God who counts every one, thank you for knowing my name and noticing when I am absent. Help me trust that I am never overlooked in your loving care. Amen.
