Why I'm Here
A pastor writing about faith, ministry, and figuring it out along the way
I’m a United Methodist pastor in central Kansas — husband, dad of two teenagers, backyard gardener, and someone trying to stay fit with varying degrees of success. I preach from the Narrative Lectionary and spend most of my energy helping people and congregations take their next faithful step. For individuals, that means growing toward love of God and neighbor right where they are. For the church, that means recognizing I’m a steward for a season and doing what I can to move the organization toward health.
I’ve been writing daily devotionals for a while now — short reflections on the week’s scripture with a prayer to carry into the day. I’ve shared them through the Great Plains Daily Devotional, by email to my congregation, and on Facebook. This brings them together in one place and makes them more accessible.
Here’s what you’ll find:
Daily devotionals following the Narrative Lectionary, free and in your inbox every morning. Each week builds toward Sunday’s scripture — Monday opens the text, and by Sunday you’re ready to preach it or hear it preached.
For pastors and church leaders who want more, paid subscribers get my full sermon manuscript and a Grace Group discussion guide each week. If you’re a Narrative Lectionary pastor looking for a colleague’s take on the text, that’s what this is.
Reflections on pastoral life — what I’m learning about leadership, the church, and the places where ministry and real life collide.
This is a ministry project. I’m not an expert packaging wisdom. I’m a pastor doing the work and writing about it as I go.
Grace and peace,
Andrew
