What I’ve Written, I’ve Written
John 19:22 · Witnesses: Encountering Jesus When It Matters Most
“Pilate answered, ‘What I’ve written, I’ve written.’” — John 19:22 (CEB)
Pilate—who had washed his hands, caved to the crowd, and tried every evasion—suddenly refused to budge. What he had written would stand.
It is one of the great ironies of the Gospel: the man who could not bring himself to stand up for Jesus stood firm on the sign that proclaimed his kingship. God uses even our inconsistency. Tomorrow we wait. Sunday we celebrate. The sign still reads the same: Jesus is king.
God of persistence, thank you that your truth stands even when we waver. We wait with hope for Easter morning, trusting that what you have written will endure. Through Christ we pray, Amen.
