“Look, I hereby give you a wise and understanding mind. There has been no one like you before now, nor will there be anyone like you afterward. I now also give you what you didn’t ask for: wealth and fame.” – 1 Kings 3:12-13 (CEB)
God gives Solomon what he asked for, and then keeps going.
Today we name the saints who asked well before us, and we come to a table where the whole meal is something nobody earned. Both are the same lesson. What we receive is almost always larger than what we knew to request.
Come with your asking, and come ready to be given more than it. Join us this morning at 8:30 or 10:15 for All Saints and Communion. Online worship is available at youtube.com/@mcphersonfirst.
God who gives past my asking, thank you for the people whose faith brought me here. Meet me at your table this morning with more than I came for. Amen.

Andrew, "What we receive is almost always larger than what we knew to request" is a good word for All Saints Sunday. I love that you tied the saints who asked well before us to a table "where the whole meal is something nobody earned." Turning 60 last week, I can say God has given past my asking more times than I can count.
