Treasured, Not Tolerated

“So now, if you faithfully obey me and stay true to my covenant, you will be my most precious possession out of all the peoples, since the whole earth belongs to me.” – Exodus 19:5 (CEB)
There is a difference between being tolerated and being treasured. Tolerated means someone puts up with you and leaves the door open with a sigh. Treasured means someone is glad you came and keeps what matters most close.
When God describes this freed people, the word is not “acceptable.” It is “most precious possession.” The whole earth belongs to God, and out of all of it, these former slaves are the treasure. An open door can feel like a low bar, like maybe they let just anyone in. But the God who opens this door is not lowering a standard. God is delighting in you. You are not the guest who slipped in unnoticed. You are the one the host was hoping would come.
