Not Someone Else's Gift
Matthew 25:15 (CEB) · The Gospel on Stage and Screen
“He gave to each servant according to that servant’s ability.” — Matthew 25:15 (CEB)
The master didn’t hand out identical portions. Five coins to one, two to another, one to a third, each according to that servant’s ability. The distribution was personal. Intentional. Nobody received someone else’s assignment.
The temptation is to look sideways. To wish for five coins when you were given two. To wonder why the person next to you seems to carry more, or less, than you do. But comparison blinds you to the gift already in your hands.
God knows your capacity better than you do, and God calibrated the gift to fit. The question this week isn’t why someone else received a different amount. The question is what will you do with what’s already yours?
God of every good gift, free us from the trap of comparison today. Open our eyes to what you have already placed in our hands, and give us the courage to begin where we are. Amen.
