“The good news is that God blessed Abram before Abram had accomplished a single thing.”

This is Five Promises, week two of five, on Genesis 12:1-9, preached September 20, 2026 alongside a new member reception. The promise this week is witness, the promise kept after leaving the room. Abram gets a direction and nothing else: no destination, no map, no arrival time. The sermon asks what it looks like to go anyway, and what it looks like to let that kind of faith show up somewhere other people can see it.

In the manuscript below:

  • A phone-navigation illustration for what it feels like to obey before you can see how it ends.

  • The three-word phrase from a campus ministry retreat that sent Andrew to seminary, and what it shares with Abram’s blank map.

  • Why Wesley’s class meetings, and the question “how is it with your soul,” are the model for a witness that isn’t a performance or a debate.

  • One sentence to say out loud this week, and where Grace Groups fit if saying it out loud is the hard part.
