“The Lord said to Abram, ‘Leave your land, your family, and your father’s household for the land that I will show you.’” – Genesis 12:1 (CEB)
God’s first word to Abram is a hard one: leave. Leave your land, your family, your father’s household, for a land I will show you. Not a land I’ve shown you. One I will show you, later, once you’re already walking. God asks Abram to go before the destination is clear.
Most of us want the whole map before we take a step. We want to see the land before we leave home. But faith rarely works that way. It usually starts with a call to go, and only reveals the road as we walk it. Abram’s story, and ours, begins not with certainty but with a willingness to move when God says move. Where is God asking you to take a step before you can see where it leads?
God of the journey, you call me to go before I can see the whole way. Give me courage to take the next step and trust you with the road. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
