“Do not commit adultery.” – Exodus 20:14 (CEB)
At its heart, this commandment is about faithfulness, and faithfulness is the glue of a trustworthy community. A marriage is the most intimate place we promise to be faithful, but the principle runs through every relationship. Can people count on you to be who you said you would be? Do your words and your life match?
We live in a culture that treats almost everything as disposable, including people, when they become inconvenient. The God who has been faithful to us across every generation invites us into a different way: to keep our promises, to stay when staying is hard, to be the kind of person whose loyalty others can build a life on. Faithfulness rarely makes the news. But it is quietly holding up half the world.
Faithful God, you have never once broken your word to me. Make me trustworthy. Help me keep my promises, especially the ones that have become hard to keep. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
