If We Endure

“If we endure, we will also rule together. If we deny him, he will also deny us.” — 2 Timothy 2:12 (CEB)

The sentence has two halves, and both halves are honest. Enduring has a promise. Denying has a cost. Paul does not pretend the stakes are low.

We like stories where faithfulness doesn’t actually require anything of us. Paul will not give us one. He has not written this letter from a comfortable seat. He has written it from prison. He knows denying Jesus is a live option because he knows the pressure that pushes people toward it.

And yet. The promise is real. Enduring means ruling together with Christ. Not ruling over. Ruling together. Shared life with the one who endured everything first.

Where is faithfulness costing you something right now, and what promise can you hold while it costs?

Faithful God, give us the courage to endure honestly. When denial would be easier, steady us with the promise of life ruled together with you. Amen.
