"I am no longer Jason Bourne."
This quote is from The Bourne Ultimatum which I have seen twice in the theaters. (Yes, I think it is that good.) I have enjoyed each of the films, beginning with The Bourne Identity and The Bourne Supremacy. The films trace the story of a man who is seeking his true identity. Along the narrative, more is discovered about who he was, who he has become and who he will become. The statement - "I am no longer Jason Bourne" - comes at a critical moment in the movie in which the man renounces the person that he once was.
It is a great story of redemption and repentance. In the Christian journey, there is a place when one recognizes God's work in her or his life and responds to that recognition. We all have the opportunity to turn from the person that we once were to the person into which God would shape us. Our stories can become intertwined with God's story. Read Romans 6:1-14 for another view of dying to self - leaving behind our past identity to take on a new one.
Did you see the movie? What did you think?
