“The Lord appeared to Abram and said, ‘I give this land to your descendants,’ so Abram built an altar there to the Lord who appeared to him.” – Genesis 12:7 (CEB)
When Abram reaches the land, the first thing he does is build an altar. No house yet, no fields, no security. An altar. A visible, public marker that says: God met me here. Abram doesn’t keep his faith tucked away as a private feeling. He stacks stones where anyone passing by can see them.
That is faith lived out loud. Most of us are more comfortable keeping God to ourselves. But witness begins with a willingness to leave a marker, to let people see that our lives are oriented toward God. It doesn’t require a sermon. Sometimes it’s just a stone stacked in plain sight. What would it look like to leave one visible marker of your faith this week?
God who meets us on the road, give me courage to mark my life with you where others can see. Let my faith be lived out loud. In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
