Grace That Won't Stop
Matthew 20:1, 16 (CEB) · The Gospel on Stage and Screen
“The kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out early in the morning to hire workers for his vineyard.” — Matthew 20:1 (CEB)
“So those who are last will be first. And those who are first will be last.” — Matthew 20:16 (CEB)
The parable begins with a landowner going out and ends with the world turned upside down. First becomes last. Last becomes first. And the generosity that started at dawn is still going at five o’clock.
That’s the arc of the whole story. Grace doesn’t operate on our schedule or by our accounting. It goes out again and again, at nine, at noon, at three, at five, looking for anyone still standing in the marketplace.
All week we’ve walked through this vineyard. We’ve seen God’s initiative, felt the ache of the overlooked, watched grace make itself visible, and confronted our own instinct to measure. Today, the invitation is simple: stop calculating and start receiving.
God’s generosity doesn’t quit. It didn’t quit at five o’clock. It won’t quit on you.
God who goes out again and again, thank you for a grace that won’t stop. On this Father’s Day, we celebrate the love that keeps showing up. Amen.
