“God remembered Noah, all those alive, and all the animals with him in the ark. God sent a wind over the earth so that the waters receded.” – Genesis 8:1 (CEB)
Forty days of rain, then more gray water with no land in sight. Noah is shut in a dark boat, unsure it will ever end. Every October, Kansas gardeners bury tulip bulbs in cold ground as winter closes in. For months it looks like nothing is happening. But underneath, the roots are forming, the darkness doing quiet work no one can see.
Then comes the hinge of Noah’s story, four quiet words: God remembered Noah. In scripture, when God remembers, God acts. The wind blows, the waters recede. If you are in a long, shut-in stretch, unsure the flood will ever fall, hear this: you are remembered. The God who showed up for Noah has not looked away from you. Where do you most need to trust that God still remembers you?
God who remembers, when the waters feel endless, remind me you have not looked away. Send your wind over my waiting. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
