Crowned Among the Condemned
John 19:18 · Witnesses: Encountering Jesus When It Matters Most
“They crucified him, and with him two others, one on each side and Jesus in the middle.” — John 19:18 (CEB)
On this quiet Saturday between crucifixion and resurrection, we sit with the image of Jesus between two others. Even at the cross, Jesus occupied the center—not of honor, but of solidarity. He was counted among those the world had given up on.
Tomorrow we celebrate that the cross could not hold him. But today we remember: the king was crowned among the condemned, and that changes everything about who belongs in his kingdom.
God of Holy Saturday, we wait in the space between loss and hope. Remind us that your love reaches the places the world has abandoned. We trust that Easter is coming. Through Christ we pray, Amen.
