A note: This is the manuscript I preached at the 10:15 AM service. Pastor Chantel Makarawa, our Associate Pastor, preached her own message at the 8:30 AM service on the same scripture.
“God already knows the truth about you, and loves you still.”
This is As For Me and My House, week two of six, on 2 Samuel 12 and Psalm 51. A year after Bathsheba and Uriah, David is still running the kingdom as though nothing happened, until God sends the prophet Nathan with a story about a rich man, a poor man, and one small ewe lamb. The sermon asks why the person we fool most is often ourselves, and what changes when somebody finally says the true thing out loud.
In the manuscript below:
An argument in my own kitchen that was never about what we were arguing about.
Why David’s anger at the man in Nathan’s story is exactly right, and aimed at the wrong person.
What Methodists mean by sanctifying grace, and why Psalm 51 asks for more than a clean record.
Three places most of us avoid honesty, and one very old way to pray this week.
