“The truth didn’t come from investigation. It came from knowing what love does under pressure.”

This is As For Me and My House, week three of six, on 1 Kings 3:4-15, preached on All Saints Sunday, two days before Election Day. God offers a young king a blank check, and Solomon asks for something the kings of his world were not expected to want. The sermon asks what we would write in his place, and who it would be for.

In the manuscript below:

  • A courtroom with two mothers, one living baby, and no evidence at all.

  • What Solomon names first, before he asks God for anything.

  • Why Methodists count reason as one of the ways God reaches us.

  • John Wesley’s advice to voters in 1774, and a small practice for the week ahead.
