“I will make of you a great nation and will bless you. I will make your name respected, and you will be a blessing.” – Genesis 12:2 (CEB)
Listen to the shape of God’s promise: blessed, and then “you will be a blessing.” The blessing doesn’t stop with Abram. It flows through him. God never blesses us simply so we can hold it. God blesses us so the blessing keeps moving, out to a neighbor, a stranger, a whole family of nations.
That’s the difference between a reservoir and a river. A reservoir holds; a river carries. When God pours something good into your life, faith asks a second question after thank you: through whom is this meant to keep flowing? Who is the next person your blessing is supposed to reach? Name one, and this week, let it move.
Generous God, you bless me so that I can bless others. Keep me from damming up your goodness. Make my life a river, not a reservoir. Through Christ our Lord, Amen.
