“You will be a kingdom of priests for me and a holy nation.” – Exodus 19:6 (CEB)
God says this to a crowd of former slaves who own almost nothing. Not a nation with priests in it. A nation of them. A priest’s work is to stand between God and somebody else, holding the one toward the other, and God hands that work to everybody in earshot, including people who walked out of a brickyard carrying whatever fit in their arms. Which means the qualification was never what you have. It was what you were given, and everyone in that crowd had been given the same thing: a way out, and a God who stayed. If you have been waiting until you are further along to be useful to God, Sinai answers before you finish the sentence.
Who is God asking you to stand between right now?
God, you called people with nothing a kingdom of priests. Use what I have. Put me between you and someone who needs you today. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
