Susanna Wesley UMC has a long history of caring for children and families. For years we have offered before and after school care for students at Indian Hills Elementary School, located right next door to our building. This year, the Auburn-Washburn school district is opening a hybrid model for in-person learning, which means placing students in two approximately equal groups that alternate between in-person and remote education. Group A will be in the school building all Mondays and Tuesdays, and Group B will be in the school buildings all Thursdays and Fridays that school is in session.
Over the past several weeks, our staff has asked, “How do we best support families in our neighborhood?” After a conversation with the Indian Hills principal, we shifted our planning from before and after school care to a learning lab available to students at Indian Hills Elementary School for the 2020-2021 school year. The enrollment capacity is 45 students from the school-assigned group A and 45 students from group B. Children will attend the Learning Lab on days the opposite group of students attends Indian Hills Elementary, plus every other Wednesday. You can find more information on our website.
I am so proud of our staff who have innovated and evolved what we offer to meet real needs in our community! I am grateful for the opportunity to serve with talented people and witness how God continues to be at work as we build diverse Christian communities where God’s love is in action.
