Churches can learn from big bluestem. This picture is of this native plant putting out new spring growth. Once established, this grass can be burned, mowed, or otherwise cut back and grow again. It draws strength from its roots, which have made their way deep into the soil.
The church has roots in the good news of Jesus Christ, God’s love for all people, and the Holy Spirit’s enlivening power. Each congregation has roots in its people, values, practices, and vision. If it seems that there is or has been a season of a congregation’s life being cut back in some way, new growth can come from our roots.
