As a pastor, I believe that equipping others for God’s work in the world is my primary role. I believe that if, as a leader, I can be effective in this area the impact on the world will grow exponentially. Currently, I find myself most active in this area in working with a team of Congregational Care Ministers. I have seen the care for the congregation increase far beyond what I would be able to do by myself as this team continues to grow and develop. I hope to continue to equip them in new and different ways.
I believe that this will be an important role no matter what future church setting I might find myself in.
- How do you equip others for God’s work?
- What have you found to be helpful in this area?
- Are there any resources or events that you would recommend?

An assortment of spiritual gift survey’s have been helpful to us at Cross Point. Great post.
I wholeheartedly agree, Andrew.
Do you have any resources that you regularly go back to for equipping others?
Group has a good volunteer training resource. I also like “The Equipping Church” and “Simply Strategic Volunteers”.
I’m always on the lookout for good resources, so if you know of any, let me know!
Pete – Great tip. Thanks!
Mark – I have a copy of Simply Strategic volunteers on my shelf, but have not read it yet. Resurrection uses “Leadership Essentials: Practical Tools for Leading in the Church” in a general leadership equipping opportunity. Hope that is helpful!
