Recommendation of the Board of Ordained Ministry

Yesterday I met with the Kansas West Conference Board of Ordained Ministry and received a recommendation to the clergy session of the Annual Conference for election to probationary membership and commissioning. This is great news and I am excited!

As a United Methodist, this is an important step moving toward ordination as an elder within the denomination. From The Book of Discipline of The United Methodist Church 2004 (a guide and order for life together as United Methodists).

Probationary members are on trial in preparation for membership in full connection in the annual conference as deacons or elder. They are on probation as to character, servant leadership, and effectiveness in ministry.

During the time of probation,Ā  the probationary member gets the opportunity to get to know the conference better and the members of the conference have the opportunity to get to know the probationary member better. Good times. šŸ™‚

More on this process later…

Andrew, congratulations on your recommendation. I am currently in Track Two of the Probationary Elder time in North Indiana. I thoroughly enjoyed reading your reflections and summaries from the recent conference. Do you know if they have plans for a similar gathering next year?

Congratulations! That is an exciting step. I’m on my third year of probationary membership and should everything go as planned I’ll be ordained in 2008. It’s a neat journey, and I can’t believe how quickly it is flying by. May God fill your path with great opportunities for service and love!

Nice!
I wish i was more diligent during seminary with the process like you and nicole were.

i’m just starting to go through the guidebook on Monday. haha.

anyway, congrats!

Jeff, Matt and Joseph – Thanks for the congratulations. I appreciate your support šŸ™‚
Jeff – I’m not sure if there is plans for another similar conference next year. There was no mention of it specifically last week…
Matt – Always good to make connections within the jurisdiction šŸ™‚ Look forward to reading more from Catching Meddlers
Joseph – no worries my friend… It doesn’t necessarily allow me to do any different types of ministry than I am currently doing – just one step along the way.

Thanks to all for your comments.

Dearest Andrew
Hallelujah! I am so glad you are moving forward. What a blessing for the church at large, and for Resurrection specifically. I can’t wait to see what the Spirit of God will do with you.
